Sea Gulls Have Models Too!

Some of you will think that I am making this up, while others may think something equally worse, like maybe," he's had to many shots of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky." While both make me look bad, it is also funny to know that the captions under the images ARE accurate about these birds. 

One thing that I have learned the past 17 years is that animals are way smarter than we give them credit. Especailly, with waterfowl, they  have such keen smell, sound and sight. They watch our every move. While editing images, I always look to see what the subject is doing and then look to see what the subject is looking at. It's amazing that generally, they are focused on us more than we are foused on them. Some---I tell you---act as if they are models.

Like a Crow, Sea Gulls do remember individual humans. These three were flying a couple of miles from where I usually shoot images of them flying. They made a big circle and came back and paraded infront of me sitting on a park bench. After looking at some of my previous images...these three are in most of my images of seagulls.Not all...but most!

 

This one is one of my favorites.It will pose for the camera until it hears the click and motor run end. Then, it parade and watch to see if the camera is pointed at it. It then, does the same thing and will stop to pose until it hears that click and motor run end.

This one is the same one that flew in and landed on the post of the dock at Sun Set Bay. All three are camera hounds!! I'm telling you....they know what they are doing. 

It's A Bit Confusing Since the Pope's Unexpected Seagull Arriving

 This past week, Pope Francis released a couple of doves from the Vatican's balcony only to have a seagull attack one of the doves, which escaped and flew away as intended. Some were upset by the turn of events, but if you have been around seagulls, they can be aggressive because they are what I call, little scrappers!

While all-white Dover make for beautiful and peaceful settings at weddings, funerals and many other symbolic events, I actually like the seagull. No, not because of the "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" work, but because they are beautiful birds in their own right. In fact, when you look at their feathers on their tails and wings, it isn't hard to see the beautiful feathers depicted in pictures of Angel Wings. In fact, they look exactly like the Angel Wings that I have seen in paintings.

Maybe, just maybe, Angels gave the seagull their beautiful features. Take a look.

The plumage is amazing

 It was in the 70's today. Even in Texas, that is a gift in late January because February really can be the coldest month of the winter. I get cabin fever after about three days in the house. So, when I discovered that one of my prescriptions was due for refill, I logged on and submitted the request to Walgreens. This morning, I had an email that my prescription was ready for pick up. Perfect!  An afternoon under the blue sky and sun. With a stress-test coming up shortly, it will also cover a cardiac walk and exercise. Sweet!

Subject matter was a bit limited, but along came a co-operative and curious sea gull. They really are beautiful birds. There must have been five or six photographers all looking for something interesting and for a rare winter's day, nothing was happening today.
